Professor Jay Lee is a Clark Distinguished Chair Professor in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park. Previously, he served as the Founding Director of the NSF I/UCRC on Intelligent Maintenance Systems (IMS) which has developed research memberships with over 100 global companies since 2000 and was selected as the most economically impactful I/UCRC in the NSF Economic Impact Study Report in 2012. The IMS Center's success motivated Professor Lee to establish an Industrial Artificial Intelligence Center to tackle the challenges and unmet needs in the application of Artificial Intelligence to a wide range of industrial applications.

The IAI Center at the University of Maryland enhances its capabilities through collaborations with esteemed entities such as the Maryland Robotics Center, the Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering (CALCE), and the Center for Risk and Reliability. These partnerships enrich our research scope and foster multidisciplinary innovation in the field of Industrial AI
